Andreas Hochuli (*1982) est un peintre suisse installé à Gênes. Il produit depuis plus d’une décennie une peinture à l’esthétique frontale faite d’aplats de couleurs vives à partir d’un protocole de composition personnel. Son travail emprunte autant au cut-up et à la culture industrielle, qu’au moralisme littéraire. Flâneur-bricoleur, chercheur dilettante, il compose ses tableaux à partir du terreau anarchique de la culture visuelle contemporaine dont il assemble des éléments sous forme d’esquisses informatiques avant de les transformer en images peintes ; évoquant au passage la force aliénante de l’espace communicationnel digital.
Rêve nouveau dont l’interprétation s’égare dans des zones inconscientes, The Year of the Babyshit Brown SUV présente un corpus de toiles qui accompagnent le glissement symbolique du temps: passions archaïques assumées, ésotérisme commercial, vibrations profondes figurent les vestiges d’un espace public infernal. A l’affût des origines et des utopies d’un Occident sans fond, l’artiste tisse une toile d’araignée de signes qui évoque les fondements mythiques du lien social et du culte de soi.
