A House is not a Home / A Home is not a House ist eine Ausstellung in zwei Teilen, die sich mit der binären Logik von Identifikation und Identität beschäftigt. Die Werke der dreizehn in der Ausstellung vertretenen KünstlerInnen teilen einen besonderen Bezug zur Räumlichkeit: ein Gespür für Abhängigkeitsverhältnisse zwischen Architektur und subjektiver Körperlichkeit. Wenn die Werke einen bestimmten Raum einnehmen, geschieht dies nicht einvernehmlich. Vielmehr scheinen sie den Übergang von ihrer Konzeption zu ihrer Rezeption infrage zu stellen. Die Ausstellungsobjekte erwecken zwar die Aufmerksamkeit des Publikums, verweigern sich aber einer normativen Interpretation.
Die Werke oszillieren zwischen dem öffentlichen Haus der Kunst und dem privaten Heim des Selbst – so, als würden sie aus der Definition des einen Ortes zum Nachteil des jeweils anderen einen Nutzen ziehen. Ihr plastischer und poetischer Sinn bezieht sich mehr oder weniger offen auf das Häusliche, das Dekorative, auf die klassischen Kunsttechniken, auf das Kunsthandwerk. Da sie oft von den KünstlerInnen eigenhändig hergestellt wurden, besitzen sie einen gewissen Charme, im Widerspruch dazu verweist ihre Erscheinung aber ebenso auf das Prekäre der künstlerischen Produktion.
